MOSFET Voltage Regulator Rectifier – Lithium Batteries Only

This advanced MOSFET voltage regulator is designed specifically for lithium batteries. It runs cooler than traditional SCR diode-style OEM regulators and includes overheat protection. If the unit overheats, it temporarily shuts down to cool rather than continuing to operate at excessive temperatures.

Why Use MOSFET Enhanced Technology?

  • Runs cooler: Operates at lower temperatures than traditional shunt voltage regulators.
  • Saves fuel: Reduces the load on the stator, requiring less engine work and fuel.
  • Steadier charging: Provides smoother, more stable power to the battery.
  • Extended battery life: Helps extend battery life and maintain cold-cranking capacity.
  • More engine power: Reduces stator load, allowing more engine power to be available.
  • Improved longevity: Advanced design lowers operating temperatures for better performance and service life.
  • Optimised power delivery: Regulates power by switching the stator coils on and off.

Regulator Features

  • Works with lithium batteries only.
  • Direct replacement for the original unit.
  • Plug-and-play, direct fit and easy installation.
  • Quality exceeds the OEM part.
  • Higher-grade electrical components.
  • Opposite connector for the main harness side included. These connectors are commonly affected by melting, corrosion and defects that can cause recurring electrical issues.

Why Do Lithium Batteries Need a Different Voltage Regulator?

Lithium batteries have different charging requirements from lead-acid and AGM batteries. These differences can significantly affect battery lifespan and performance. Two important factors for safe and reliable lithium battery charging are DC voltage ripple and average output voltage. This RMSTATOR regulator is designed around the optimal parameters for these factors.

The Ripple Effect

Charging voltage ripple is the difference between the highest and lowest voltages at the regulator output. Traditional shunt-style regulators can produce relatively high voltage ripple because their regulation switches open and close frequently. Each transition causes variations in output voltage. Keeping this ripple low is particularly important for lithium batteries.

Ideally, ripple would be less than 10% of the output voltage (approximately 1.5 V for a typical regulator), although this is not practical for this type of regulator. The RMSTATOR lithium regulator maintains output ripple below 4 V, compared with verified competitor test results of 8 V. This ripple is measured using an oscilloscope sampling voltage thousands of times per second. It is not the same as average charging voltage measured with a multimeter.

Before Installing the New Stator

  • Check the AC output of the stator.
  • Replace any burned or corroded connectors on the stator and regulator rectifier.
  • Check and repair any melted wiring.
  • Apply high-temperature dielectric grease to all connectors.

The stator may use a different wire colour code from the original part. All wires are installed in the correct order; do not change the wiring configuration. This stator is designed as a direct plug-in replacement. Always use thread-locking compound when securing the stator bolts. If the stator includes a pickup coil, check the air gap during installation. Adjust it as close as possible, but no less than 0.010 inches.

Before Installing the New Voltage Regulator Rectifier

  • Check the AC output of the stator.
  • Replace any burned or corroded connectors on the stator and regulator rectifier.
  • Check and repair any melted wiring.
  • Apply high-temperature dielectric grease to all connectors.

Flywheel Installation

Before starting the Yamaha motorcycle, adjust the air gap. Rotate the flywheel until the raised node is aligned with the pickup/pulser coil. Adjust the gap as close as possible, but no less than 0.010 inches.

Warning

Risk of electric shock. Disconnect the battery before servicing. Installation should be carried out by a qualified technician to avoid malfunction.
